			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are going to discuss a very alarming misconception amongst guitarists, and come up with a solution to the problem. This problem is a misconception that guitarists seem to have more than any other group of musicians due to the fact that the guitar is a visual instrument. Maybe you have heard somebody say:</p>
<p>&#8220;I just use movable shapes and it works&#8221;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s great and all to have an instrument where we can move ideas around visually except when we use the visual aspect in the wrong context. An uninformed context. For some reason guitarists have been infamous for sounding like they were all built in the same factory.</p>
<p>For this reason I decided to take aim to help guitarists by teaching them to play like musicians and composers as opposed to just guitarists. Many have found that this opens up a new sonic territory in their playing and truly takes them to so many different, exciting, and positive territories as an &#8220;INSTRUMENTALIST&#8221;</p>
<p>That leads me to discuss one of the more common vehicles for rock, blues, and jazz improvisation, and that is the pentatonic scale. Today I would like to discuss a regular 12 bar blues in the key of &#8220;A&#8221;. It seems like most guitarists prefer this key for some reason, so we will use this key. The progression in it&#8217;s most basic form is 4 bars of A(7,9,13), 2 bars of D(7,9), 2 bars of A(7,9,13), 1 bar of E(7,9), 1 bar of D(7,9), 1 bar of A(7,9,13), and 1 bar of E(7,9) to turnaround back to the tonic.</p>
<p>Now, if I took a poll and asked 100 guitarists which scale they would use to improvise over this scale, I am pretty sure about 90% plus of them would say: A minor pentatonic. This is where we are going to talk about the solution. For A(7,9,13) we would use an A Major Pentatonic Scale. For those of you with any theory background Yes that is the same as an F# minor pentatonic scale.</p>
<p>Over the D(7,9) we could then use the A Minor Pentatonic Scale, and now it actually sounds stunningly good! Over the E(7,9) we would use an E Major Pentatonic Scale. Now, lets take this to the next level. We can play the A Major and A Minor pentatonic scale in the same position, However can you tell me how to play an E Major pentatonic scale within one fret of the first two scales?</p>
<p>Now, what if this discussion is one that you already had &#8220;Answers&#8221; to? Then let me ask you this: Which Pentatonic Scales would you play over an Amin7b5, and D7#9#5 Chord? Or how does Pat Martino use Pentatonic scales in his guitar architecture?</p>

<p>This is a great question about music theory for guitar. The term diatonic basically means two tones. This refers to the two different kinds of steps that occur in major scales, whole-step and half-step. The word is also used to indicate when something stems from one key. For example, <em>&#8220;this riff is all diatonic&#8221;</em> means that all of its notes are straight out of the parent major scale. Or, <em>&#8220;this guitar solo is not diatonic&#8221;</em> means that it features notes that are not part of the parent major scale (like chromatic passing tones).</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Pentatonic scale patterns are not considered diatonic because they are not based on a two step formula. And they don&#8217;t have seven notes like major scales do</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong><em>2. How can I play a major pentatonic scale over a song that uses chords from the major scale?</em></strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The pentatonic scale follows the root chord in a progression. The root is the tonal center of a song and usually where everything starts and ends. If the root chord is major, then you can play the same major pentatonic scale over the whole progression. If the root chord is minor, then you can play the same minor pentatonic scale over the whole progression.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>For example, the song &#8220;Wonderful Tonight&#8221; by Eric Clapton is based on a 1 5 4 5 (G D C D) chord progression in the key of G. The G chord is the root since everything pulls to and resolves on it. So you can play G major pentatonic scale patterns over the whole song. Just position pentatonic pattern one so that the second note is G (the relative minor is E).</p>

<p>The guitar solo to &#8220;Stairway to Heaven&#8221; by Led Zeppelin is based on a 6 5 4 chord progression in C, with the 6 chord Am functioning as the root. So you can play Am pentatonic scale patterns over the whole progression. Just position pentatonic pattern one so that the first note is A.</p>

<p>In order to use the correct major scale, you must take the whole progression into account, not just the root. So in the first example play G major scale patterns. In the second play C major scale patterns (Am is the relative minor).</p>

Would it develop the melodic and harmonic relationship? Would it help develop listening skills or promote only rote learning? Would it be satisfying to an adult learner or not stimulating enough?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Using the pentatonic method, the beginning pianist has only five notes to choose from. Those five notes based on a whole and half step relationship make up what is known as the pentatonic scale. In the piano world, those five notes correspond exactly to the five black keys on the piano. Conveniently amazing.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Equally amazing is that a beginner needs only those five notes to make beautiful music, develop technical skills, promote listening and play-back skills and encourage boundless creativity. Learning to play the piano using the pentatonic method is also immensely satisfying to the adult novice pianist because this method encourages from day one playing recognizable well-known and loved melodies with accompaniment patterns.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The pentatonic method takes away many of the layers of music-making and refines it to the simplest possible denominator &#8211; the physical attributes of playing the piano. Before a person can make music, that person needs to be able to move their fingers and hands.</p>

<p>The pentatonic method, because it uses rote learning, emphasizes hand position and finger movement. It allows the learner to concentrate fully on moving their fingers and developing a proficient technique before adding the other layers of learning the language of music. Technical prowess becomes an attribute of students of this method.</p>

<p>The pentatonic method not only allows but promotes playing with two hands from the onset of the course. Because of the nature of the pentatonic scale, melodic and harmonic relationships are consonant and every combination of notes sounds pleasing. Thus, melodic and harmonic relationships are effortlessly explored. The variation of accompaniment patterns using only the five black keys is endless and hindered only by the player&#8217;s imagination.</p>

<p>The pentatonic method in its use of melody and accompaniment from the very early stages develops listening skills. Students discover how changing an accompaniment pattern can change the character of the piece they are playing. By moving from a blocked fifth accompaniment pattern to a cross-hand chord cluster accompaniment pattern, the melody takes on a new flavor. The same melody can go from a jaunty Irish dance to a dreamy lullaby in the matter of a few quick note changes in the left hand all while staying on only the black keys.</p>

<p>The pentatonic method is immediately satisfying to an adult pianist. The student makes swift progress and is playing music immediately. Best of all, the learner is not merely a learner but an explorer. Basic patterns are presented but because of the nature of the pentatonic scale, the inventive learner can take this method in many different directions.</p>

Humans discovered a long time ago that music could be made from vibrating strings. A string musical instrument such as the lute or mandolin was the means by which traveling minstrels would entertain the crowd. Even today, there is interest in these early forms. Rock star Sting has recently released an album of 16th century lute music and American band REM has often featured a mandolin. The Rod Stewart hit, Maggie May also featured the distinctive sound of the mandolin.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Every culture has produced their forerunner of the modern guitar. Africa and Asia have several versions of string musical instrument, often with only three strings. In America, the banjo became popular in country and folk music. The guitar was used for jazz and blues before becoming the backbone of rock and roll. Western rock music has also incorporated the Sitar, an instrument used in Indian music, first heard in a pop song performed by The Beatles with Norwegian Wood.</p>
<p>Many of the greatest pieces of classical music have been written for a string orchestra or string quartet. The violin, viola and cello are wonderful for solo string musical instrument compositions and to blend together. These are the bowed instruments; the violin is sometimes plucked with a technique called pizzicato. The double bass is very versatile and can be found in jazz bands, orchestras and for rockabilly groups. The violin too is versatile and often used in rock and folk music. The fiddle is a staple of Irish, jigs and reels. Jazz violinists such as Darryl Way and Jean Luc Ponty are very accomplished performers. Jimmy Page, flamboyant guitarist from Led Zeppelin, even took a bow to his electric guitar to produce an experimental sound. Most string instruments can be fitted with electric pickups to amplify the sound, to fit in with any genre.</p>
<p>Technically speaking, keyboard instruments such as the piano, clavichord and harpsichord are categorized as a string musical instrument as they have strings, which are struck by hammers. The piano however, is sometimes classed as a percussion instrument.</p>
<p>Whatever genre all these instruments are employed in, they bring a range of sound that is unequalled. A fiddle can make you want to get up and dance and a cello solo can make you reach for the tissues. Music is very often programmed these days with instruments being simulated through a computer, but there is nothing to equal the sound of a live violin in an echoing hall.</p>

<p>When our classical music radio station in Detroit closed down, I was absolutely devastated. Here I was, in a major city, and there was no way for me to listen to classic music on the radio in the car. Most cities had two classical stations at least, and at one point Detroit had as well. Don&#8217;t get me wrong – public radio still played a lot of classical composers, but only during certain programs. Much of the time, I would have to bring my own CDs with me if I wanted to hear classical compositions.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>That is why it was so overjoyed when I discovered classical music online. I have never really studied classical music history very much, and I don&#8217;t know the music that well. All I know is that I like it. That is why it is nice for me to have a DJ to play it for me. I don&#8217;t really have to think about it. I can just sit back and let the music wash over me. Classical music radio was great for that, but online radio stations are also good.</p>

<p>Of course, even if you are a more knowledgeable classical fan, you can still find what you need online. There are plenty of classical music downloads out there that a lot of my friends take advantage of. This is an especially good way to find the works of new composers. A lot of art music composers are absolutely desperate to find fans nowadays. They are perfectly willing to make their performances available for free in hopes that you will become familiar with their works and want to see them live. They put their classical music online and spread the word as far as they can. The only difficulty is finding out about these artists.</p>

<p>That is where Internet streaming radio comes in. A lot of online Internet Djs make it their business to be extremely knowledgeable about current trends in music and entertainment. They will point you to some of the hottest musicians in whatever genre interests you. A lot of people don&#8217;t expect classical music online to be so fertile, but it really is. It seems that nowadays whenever a genre loses popularity in the outside world, it finds refuge on the Internet. Classical music online is no exception. Whether you are into the works of the Romantic period, the high classical composers, or more modern art music, you can find it on the Internet.</p>

<p>The world of rap music has been going strong since the early 1980&#8242;s. The direction of the music continues to move in various directions and the faces of those at the top of the charges change as well. There have been many rap artists that have pushed the limits of the music industry though and really made it something for themselves. Many consumers love a new sound when it emerges in the area of pop music so they are happy to go out and buy it.</p>

<p>Eminem is one that appeals to people of all ages it seems. Taking his lyrical content from his real life issues of a mother that was into drugs and prostitution is something that people are really interested in. He has also written songs about the mother of his child that don&#8217;t view here in a very promising light. One of the intriguing things about Eminem though is that he is white. Almost all good rap artists are black by nature it seems and this was unusual. He also didn&#8217;t have the appearance of a traditional rap artist. The fact that he was able to emerge on the scene at such an early age was appealing too.</p>

<p>Kid Rock is the other well known white rap artist. He is also well known for his wild boy antics. He is portrayed as a nice guy but then you always see him in the news involved in various fist fights and problems with people. Some fans feel let down by Rock as he has shifted his musical content over the past several years. He is often classified as more rock and roll on his recent albums.</p>

<p>Some rap artists continue to carry out a legacy even after their death. 2Pac was killed at a Las Vegas casino in 1996 during a drive by shooting. Many say his rival rap artist Biggie Smalls was responsible for the act but this has never been proven. His music continues to be sold in very high amounts. This shows how much of a credit he has for establishing the foundation of rap music in our society. To many, 2Pac is what Elvis is to the era of rock and roll.</p>

Lena is most famous for the movie Stormy Weather, in which she sung the title song, in the 1940&#8242;s.  Contrary to how music careers usually begin, Lena grew up in an elite family. She lived in a black bourgeois area in Brooklyn, New York.<br />

Lena&#8217;s grandparents raised her. Though, she was said to have been a part of the Black elite, racial discrimination still existed.  Lena Horne and her friend Paul Robeson embarked on a lifelong effort to fight for Civil Rights.<br />
In fact, she took the civil rights movement so seriously to the point of rejecting the offer to perform to a segregated audience or to an audience where the black people were there only to serve white people. Lena Horne was apart of the March on Washington just for the purpose of receiving well-deserved treatment equal to the privileged white people. In addition, Lena Horne committed herself to speaking along with performing for the NAACP, National Council For Negro Women and to assist former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt in passing the anti-lynching law in America&#8217;s Congress.<br />
Even with all those serious concerns she still found time to become one of the most memorable Jazz singers in history.  She performed at the cafe society, a club imitating the European cabarets to show the talent of undiscovered African American which led to the success of Lena Horne, Paul Robeson, Big Joe Turner, Ella Fitzgerald, Lester Young, Hazel Scott, Sarah Vaughn, Josh White, Pete Johnson and Mary Lou Williams.<br />
From 1947 to 1971 Lena Horne remarried again to a Jewish man  Lennie Hayton a musical conductor and arranger for MGM studios later to admit in her autobiography titled &#8220;Lena&#8221; by author Richard Schickel that she married him to help her career.   Nevertheless, the interracial couple as always had to face pressures same race couples do not, but she stayed with him until he passed away. Lena Horne was in several Broadway musicals, and won a 1958 award for her  performance in the calypso titled &#8220;Jamaica&#8221;.  Lena Horne won a Tony Award For her one woman show titled &#8220;Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music&#8221;.</p>

<p>When he was a teenager he played drums for the Chicago Defender Newsboy&#8217;s band. When he lived in California, he played for the Dixieland Blue-Blowers. The first band that he recorded with was The Quality Serenaders, then he left again to go play with another band, Les Hite band. It was here that he began studying the vibraphone. Louis Armstrong  asked Lionel to play the vibraphones on two songs. That is when he made the vibraphone a popular instrument.</p>
<p>While still with the Les Hite band, Lionel went to the University of Southern California taking music. He also worked with the Nat Shilkrer orchestra. In 1936 he was in the film Pennies From Heaven, starring Bing Crosby. He was next to Louis Armstrong, but hid himself by wearing a mask when he was playing the drums.</p>
<p>In 1936 he was fortunate to meet Benny Goodman who came to watch him perform. Benny asked him to join his trio which consisted of Benny, Gene Krupa and Teddy Wilson. It was then renamed the Benny Goodman Quartet. The year before, Lionel worked with Billie Holiday with Benny&#8217;s orchestra. This group of artists was one of the first integrated jazz groups that performed openly in society.</p>
<p>Lionel recorded with several groups while still with Benny Goodman, but in 1940 he left to create his own big band. Lionel&#8217;s orchestra was a hit in the 40&#8242;s and 50&#8242;s. &#8220;Flying Home&#8221; featured a Illinois Jacquet solo that began a new style of music, R&amp;B. The song was so popular that he did another version called &#8220;Flying Home, Number Two&#8221;, with Arnett Cobb. Lionel&#8217;s music was a mixture of jazz music and R&amp;B during this time. Some great jazz musicians that worked with him during this time were Johnny Griffin, Dinah Washington, Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie.</p>
<p>As time went on, in the 1960&#8242;s and after, his success lessened. He was still performing hits from the 1930&#8242;s-1950&#8242;s. In the 1970&#8242;s he recorded with the Who&#8217;s Who Record label, but still did not do as well as he could have.</p>
<p>Going the college route seemed to help a bit. His band played at University of Idaho&#8217;s jazz concert regularly. In 1985, the named it the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. Two years later, they named the music school the Lionel Hampton School of Music. It was the only music school at a university that was named after a jazz musician. Lionel kept playing until he had a stroke in 1991 in Paris. Even though he had to stop performing as much, he did a performance at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2001, not long before he died. This jazz music legend will never be forgotten.</p>

<p>With every turn of the knob on a mixer or mastering tool is also a certain application of acoustics with the recording.  If you can grasp the acoustics of recording and how it works with the development of your particular sound, you will also have more capabilities in recording and how you are able to portray the audio sounds that you are creating.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Acoustics begins with the vibration of air, or in some instances, an electronic device.  With natural acoustics, the air moves through a certain compartment, such as an instrument or the voice.  The more the vibration of the air moves, the more sound it is able to create for the instrument.  This is what leads to the sound waves, which are more re-creations of the vibration of air that is moving through the space that it is in.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The vibration of air is what causes various acoustics to respond in a given space.  It is also the simple concept of air vibration that leads to specific ideals about how to set a recording studio in order to take in the right sounds to record.  Understanding how to control acoustics becomes the basis for setting up a recording studio as well as the main concept in controlling sounds as they are recorded.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>When a sound is made through an instrument, it has a variety of levels of air that it hits and causes to vibrate.  At one level, we hear this as a note that is played through the sound.  However, the acoustics can take on different capacities in producing different sounds that are not heard.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The first sound that is produced comes from the environment in which the sound is played.  If the room is larger, has further ceilings and is spacious, the sound will bounce against the walls.  This will cause the sound to move faster, become louder and to resonate throughout the area.  For recording, this is why the walls are deadened and smaller spaces are created.  If there is the echo effect in the song, it can begin to sound like the beats are off.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Another way in which acoustics change the sound is through resonance.  This is when the vibration of the sound is heard, even when the note is no longer being sung or played.  This resonance can continue to move as long as the vibration of air continues to hit the particular area.  Most of the time, resonance will be a filtering off of the initial sound as the vibration of air continues to slow down.  In recording, this resonance is also muffled through the sound proof rooms in order to create a clearer sound.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The last part of acoustic sounds is the concept of overtones.  Even though we only hear one note that is being played or sung, this is not the only note that is in the air.  Acoustics create a vibration of sound waves that continue to resonate and vibrate at different levels.  These will be pitches that are created above the original pitch, with specific spacings in the pitch.  While they are not heard, they still create an effect on the ear with the sound vibration that moves through the air.  This also makes a difference in recording, as the overtones can create a different effect and can be recorded as a wave file.  This may cause differences in peaks as well as basic sounds that are heard in the piece.</p>

<p>Jazz music made its mark in the hearts of Americans ever since the 20th century when people embraced the musicians of the time. However, when the singers came on the scene strong with skills in the art of scatting that is a vocal form of Jazz improvisation, the ability to articulate music expressively, and have that pizzazz to swing to the rhythms effectively makes a Jazz virtuoso. Jazz music bore another gift on the American public to spread to the world during the 1940&#8242;s when singers came together to form groups.  The sound of acapella harmony of many voices like in a church choir using a juxtaposition of Jazz harmony is ethereal and divine.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In fact,  due to the success of such groups as the Mills Brothers, Boswell Sisters,  Andrews sisters, and Modernaires  during the 1930&#8242;s 1940&#8242;s made Jazz fans of vocal Jazz music seek more.  As a result, record stores stocked up on the music of vocal Jazz music, and it became a tremendous success that made quartets like Manhattan Transfer a household name today.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In addition, America has the largest selection of  vocal Jazz music even though there are vocal Jazz ensembles all over the world. These new vocal Jazz groups do not all sing a capella style music that is common to barber shop. Vocal Jazz groups commonly use a Jazz band to accompany them as they perform. Jazz music may not be as strict as classical music, but it is in a class all it&#8217;s own. It takes great skill to sing Vocal Jazz as it does with Classical, and many other styles of music. Meaning, everyone cannot be a good jazz soloist, but it doesn&#8217;t mean that they cannot sing in the vocal jazz ensemble.  Each singer must match in volume, resonance, and key in order to be a worthy member in the vocal Jazz ensemble. Ever singer must be able to sing their parts, and be heard as well as blended into the group.  There are times when different people in the vocal Jazz group will be asked to scat to the music, and take the challenges that some complex Jazz music holds with great skill.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>All the beauty that Vocal Jazz possessed in the past did not always keep it in popularity.  For instance, there was a time in the 60&#8242;s when Jazz music no longer had mass appeal due to the American interest in Rock music. Imagine the record companies who supply music to the radios, and the nightclubs who allowed popular acts to perform live suddenly locking Jazz musicians out.  Yet, Jazz never lost its following despite the ever-changing interests of the public. Vocal Jazz singers attempted to begin again in the 70&#8242;s, but the public did not show much interest in a style that was considered passe.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Fortunately, those who loved the music and dedicated themselves to the music caused people to take notice from the latter part of the 80&#8242;s to the millennium where Jazz singers came prepared to recreate Jazz again. Vocal Jazz singers went along with the times to keep the traditional Jazz and add new elements that the public would like to hear.</p>

<p>In the turn of the century around 1920, many artists made their mark by playing in the discreet underground nightclubs known as &#8220;Speakeasies&#8221; which are high class , &#8220;Blind pig&#8221; lower class  or &#8220;Smokeasy&#8221; for smokers. The United States once prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages and smoking tobacco in clubs as a constitutional amendment. One could usually find an underground nightclub by the doors without a sign to indicate that there was such as establishment inside.  Those dives also had a secret door that lead out to a passageway or alley in case the police came to investigate.  The police had the power to arrest everyone in the place due to the fact that they were broke the law by being there.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>However, thing were beginning to look up for Jazz Music once the invention of the record player or phonograph was made to play jazz albums.  In addition, radio stations helped promote Jazz music, and made it popular among the public.  Jazz Music became a music of class that earned the era  a nick name  known as the &#8220;Jazz age&#8221;.  The band leaders who became famous as Jazz musicians were Paul Whiteman, Ted Lewis, Harry Reser, Leo Reisman, Abe Lyman, Nat Shilkret, Earl Burnett, Ben Bernie, George Olson, Bob Haring, Vincent Lopez, Ben Salvin and many more. Paul Whiteman claimed  to be the king of Jazz music due to his popularity. He earned the title when he hired some white Jazz musicians with Bix Beiderbecke included to combine jazz with larger orchestrations.<br />
In fact George Gershwin&#8217;s &#8220;Rhapsody In Blue&#8217; was commissioned by Whiteman as his debut for the orchestra.</p>

<p>Ten years after Jazz music became popular it was reinvented into a style that would be suitable for radio and dancing. This style was known as &#8220;Swing&#8221; which allowed musicians to improvise their own interpretation of the melody or theme that was sometimes difficult to do. In the Swing era Jazz bands grew into a larger size which was often referred to as &#8220;Big Band&#8221; music that would always feature a soloist.<br />
The band leaders and music arrangers for Jazz music who became famous for this style of music was Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, Fletcher Henderson, Walter Page, Benny Goodman, Don Redman, Chick Webb, Jimmie Lunceford, and Jay McShann. During this time there were racial issues of segregation between black and white people, but it slowly died down enough for the white band leaders to find black musicians to perform with them. In the middle of the 1930&#8242;s Benny Goodman invited Teddy Wilson(pianist), Lionel Hampton (vibraphonist), and Charlie Christian (guitarist) to be a part of a group.  Each musician learned from the style of other musicians in order to form their own. For example, Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie(trumpeter), Bing Crosby (vocalist) were influenced by the improvising of Louis Armstrong. Later, the vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and Sarah Vaughn joined the scene with Jazz Improvisation known as the scat.  To Scat is to vocally imitate musical instruments using such non verbal language as doot &#8216;n doo bee yah bah loo bey doo ee ya boy lay bah doo doot &#8216;n doo yah doo doy.<br />
In the beginning of the 1940&#8242;s Jazz music evolved yet again into a new style known as &#8220;Jump Music&#8221;  which was upbeat music using blues chords performed by small music groups. These small music groups are the forms many bands make today.  Later, another style of Jazz music came using the music of the 1930&#8242;s as an inspiration called &#8220;Boogie-Woogie&#8221; where the usual 4 beat bar section expanded into an eight beat bar section in the rhythm which Big Joe Turner took the lead in the 1940&#8242;s.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In the 1950&#8242;s, music reinvented again when turner turned to &#8220;Rock and Roll music&#8221;.  As for the Swing era music it was reborn in the use of the modern dance trends.   Kansas City made memorial for Charlie Parker in their American Jazz Museum that displays the history of the music and the people who made Jazz music what it has become.</p>

The essence of Jazz music is the ethereal atmosphere of the dimensional harmony created by kaleidoscope of chromatic tones.  It is the pulsating back beat of syncopating  African rhythms through the rumble of the drums, or soft sound of the brush to the snare.</p>

<p>The music is an expression of melody from the depth of the soul conveyed as a gospel in many unique ways.  These elements combined with the free impressionistic ambiance of instrumental tones in orchestration as a foundational juxtaposition of 7th, 9th,13th chordal harmony makes this style truly unique.  The essence of Jazz music  is music that is upbeat, full of pizzazz ,yet laid back with style. One would  never guess that this free style of music has a foundation that began with  Baroque elements found in Classical music.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Classical music comes from the basic structure of homophony when two or more musical lines are played vertically  in the same direction as sacred music.   In fact, Jazz music is created with homophony  in terms of the movement of chords to support the melodic improvisation.  However, when it comes to playing intervals and chordal harmonies, Jazz is free from the restriction of classical form. For example, if a song is written in the key of  C or a minor there are no sharps or flats written on the staffs. Many times in Jazz music Accidentals are put in the music to cause a tonal effect found in chromatic tones.  Tonal effects can occur when  one or more notes are altered by raising or lowering a pitch by one half step.  Sharps are symbols in the shape of a number sign or tic tac toe board (#).  Flats are symbols in the shape of a lower case B(b), yet  shaped differently like half a heart.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In some Jazz pieces, both the sharp and flat can occur simultaneously in a chord.  The result of such musical experimentation can be Dissonant chords unresolved for the purpose of producing a certain sound.  Depending on what tones are used the sound is either full of color, or full of tension.  On the other hand, Consonance is a stable balance of harmonic tones without tension.  One example of the essence of Jazz Music is the song &#8220;Route 66&#8243; with cluster of chords with dissonant tones that move from major to minor to diminished to create tonal color.</p>
<p>The Tones in Jazz music is always about the speech rhythm and the chordal harmony full of color as influenced by music in the impressionism period.  The essence of Jazz music serves as a personal  interpretation of the picture the performer wants us to thinks about.  The icing to the cake are the vocalists  and instrumentalists  who performs how they feel from the soul as the music beckons them to reply to it&#8217;s statement.  As the soloist plays or sings, the beauty of  strong kaleidoscope tones in the harmony encourages one to soar especially in ballads.</p>

<p>All of this can occur when the harmony plays in the right position above the correct bass tones found in all Jazz masterpieces.  The true essence of Jazz music is present in its  ability to shape the music through tones, the syncopation of speech rhythm, the chromatic harmony, improvisational solos, and  constant motion of the bass. It is the free structure  made from a balanced structure, and a music expressed from the soul.</p>

<p>Jika ingin belajar musik di Amerika, seseorang bisa saja mengambil jurusan ini untuk tingkat SMA atau Universitas. Tetapi menurut Dr. Hendry Wijaya, sebaiknya sebelum memasuki pendidikan musik di  Amerika aeseorang harus memiliki kualifkasi sepertii menyelesaikan O&#8217;level (setara dengan ijasah tingkat 8 ujian Royal), kematangan mental (dapat menghindari pengaruh-pengaruh negatif), dapat menyesuaikan diri dan dapat membedakan apa yang buruk atau yang baik.</p>
<p>Belajar Musik itu bukan hanya belajar musik itu sendiri. Banyak sekali hal-hal lain yang juga dihadapi atau dipelajari untuk membantu kematangan dalam belajar musik, seperti mengenal berbagai budaya lain, pengembangan kepribadian yang baik, sejarah dan pengetahuan umum lainnya, karena para komponis itu sendiri dalam mengarang lagu sangan dipengaruhui hal-hal ini.</p>
